Putting the spotlight on 4 year olds

Age 4 is an important age for many children, it marks a time of transition. There is often transition or the anticipation of transition between homecare, daycare and pre-school to the school kindergarten environment. While the 4 year old may not transition until a little older, age 4 is when some of the foundations can be set to make these transitions smoother and easier.

As part of our spotlight on 4 year olds, Kip McGrath has put together a Development Profile for the 4 year old child. This profile can give you a basic idea of where your child stands developmentally. There are many games and activities you can provide for or do with your 4 year old to strengthen those development areas.

Most are simple and can be done around the house or in regular family activities. They are all so much fun and part of normal life that children won't even realise they are learning.

When you engage your child in these type of activities you are giving them the message that learning is fun.

Get Ready for School

Kip McGrath has developed a specialised program to help pre-schoolers transition to 'big' school. Many of our centres offer this program at key times of the year. Parent Fact Sheet

We have also developed an at home version of the Get Ready for School program that parents can use in the home to help their child prepare for school.
